JOB SUMMARY: Under minimal supervision is responsible for performing dose rate calculations for treatment applications as well as all aspects of Radiation Safety. Calibrates and repairs radiation generating equipment, and modifies/designs equipment as necessary. Provides instruction to other departmental personnel in areas of atomic and non-atomic physics. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Consistently supports the hospital ?s Spirit of Serving Standards, in line with the Mission, Vision and values of St. Joseph Medical Center. 2. Follows the St. Joseph Medical Centers ? Guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI) 3. Promotes a culture of safety for patients and Associates through proper identification, proper reporting, documentation and prevention of medical errors in a non-punitive environment. 4. Plans, directs, and conducts supportive programs directed toward the accurate and safe delivery of radiation for therapy. Calculates the necessary physical distribution of radiation dose within individual treatment fields, and designs treatment aids. 5. Calculates the necessary physical distribution of radiation dosage within individual patient treatment fields, prepares delivery dose for interstitial and intercavitary implants. 6. Repairs electronic and mechanical equipment, including linear accelerator, when repair can be accomplished without service representative. 7. Conducts a variety of radiation safety testing: acceptance testing on new or altered equipment, compliance survey testing to ensure standards are being met, performance evaluation of therapy equipment. 8. Consistently able to respond to high volume situations in addition to routine schedule without sacrificing accuracy/quality. Must meet modality specific departmental standards. Adjust personal schedule to accommodate department workload including on-call when required. Assists others in department as time and schedule permits 9. Displays a cooperative attitude and communicates effectively with Radiation Oncologists, other Medical Imaging areas and/or other hospital departments to expedite patient care. 10. Maintains brachytherapy/HDR log and other records as required by the BRC. 11. Supportive of the compliance program set forth by SJMC and demonstrated by:a. Upholds the Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance.b. Adheres to dealing appropriately and fairly with employee misconduct.c. Enforces all compliance policies as they pertain to his/her area.d. Provides and assures timely compliance education as requested by the Compliance Officer and/or through corporate initiatives. 12. Sets an example to all staff in their daily activities.MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: WORK EXPERIENCE:- Two ? three years as a Physicist preferred. LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:- None EDUCATION & TRAINING:- A minimum of a Master ?s degree in Medical Radiation Physics SKILLS:- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Knowledge of normal anatomy and anatomic variations. - Must be able to write legibly, speak clearly, and have a working knowledge of radiographic principles. Must have the ability to concentrate for periods of 6 hours, problem solving skills a must, analytical skills necessary for the calculation of treatment doses.
