Under the supervision of the Insurance Verification Supervisor, the Financial
Counselor is responsible for the daily review, contract interpretation, precert/authorization compliance, and upfront collection for all in-house accounts. The Financial Counselor is an active participant in facility Net revenue and/or Discharge Planning meetings. The Financial Counselor facilitates the Coordination of account follow up with the case Management team. Other duties as assigned.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Consistently follows facility guidelines and procedures in
performance. Counsels patients about unpaid bills. Works closely with Case Management (U/R) on a daily basis in regard to patient status changes, insurance notification or insurance coverage. Creates and maintains detailed notes of activities in the system to reflect all actions performed on a patient's account. Assists in registering patients or admitting patients when needed. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
High School Diploma or GED required. Associate Degree preferred, experience may substitute degree requirements.
Technical, critical thinking and interpersonal skills relevant to area in order to effectively communicate with physicians, health team members, patients and families. Ability to prioritize work with minimal supervision, in order to independently carry out the duties of the position. Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Basic computer knowledge, proficient in excel.
Other certification requirements as defined by the certification policy.
