Surgical Technologist - Certified - Women's Services - FT, 7p-7a
Under supervision of the Circulating Nurse, the Surgical Technologist prepares for a scheduled procedures and arranges sterile set up of instrument tables according to established protocol. He/she assists surgeons by passing instruments and supplies, holding retractor's and anticipating surgeons' needs during course of procedure. The surgical tech also cleans the operating room and stores equipment and supplies.
SCOPE OF SERVICES:
Surgical Services provides surgical intervention in specialty areas of General, Orthopedics, Cardiovascular, Cardiothoracic, Spine, Neurosurgery, Ophthalmology, Urologic, Otolaryngology, Plastic and Reconstructive, Oncology, Podiatry, Pediatric, Laser, Gynecologic and Obstetric surgery. Additional medical specialties include Endoscopy, Bronchoscopy and pain management. The services provided are for both outpatient and inpatient populations.
The clinical areas include Pre-admission Testing, Day Surgery (Pre-op and Phase II Recovery), OR, PACU (Phase I Recovery) and ENDO.
Hours of Operation:
Open from 0630 until 1900, with 12 room’s 7a-3p, 6 room’s 3p-5p, and 2 rooms at 5p-7p. At 7pm we can run x2 rooms with "On Call" staff to address high volume needs and emergencies.
On Weekends and Holidays the department is open for any urgent/emergency cases. We can run x2 rooms at same time, 7am-7am.
Minimum of 3 years OR experience. With 2-3 areas of specialty experience in hospital setting.
Education, Training & Certification:
Candidate is a graduate of an accredited educational program for surgical technologists and holds and maintains certification as a surgical technologist.
Candidate has completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps or Coast Guard of the United States of America or in the United States Public Health Service. Surgical technologist certification is preferred.
Candidate completed a training program and was employed to practice surgical technology in a health care facility before September 1, 2009. Surgical technologist certification is preferred.
American Heart Association Healthcare Provider certification is required.
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to interact with patients, surgeons and other patient care personnel, often during emergency or stressful situations.
- Analytical skills necessary in order to organize and prepare the operating room according to standard methods and procedures.
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 80% of work time when performing technical tasks and anticipating surgeons' needs.
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods (more than 80% of work time) and to occasionally lift and position patients when preparing patients for operative procedures; and manual dexterity necessary to grasp and hold firmly retractors and delicate surgical instruments.
