The Director champions best practice and evidence-based initiatives and serves as a catalyst for change. The Director supports professional nursing practice and empowers and supports nurses to continuously improve in the delivery of safe, effective, compassionate, and efficient nursing care in collaboration with all health care disciplines. This position is responsible for participating in the strategic planning for nursing services and the realization of nursing goals. The Director ensures compliance with standards established by professional nursing organizations, national, state, and local regulatory agencies, and institutional policies and procedures. The Director is accountable for supporting professional nursing practice that upholds high standards of integrity and ethical behavior. The Director mentors others, role models professionalism, and participation in activities such as nursing organizations, nursing research, the community, and bodies that shape health care policies and practices. Labor, Delivery and Recovery
Or the birth of your baby, we’ve prepared a private, spacious, Labor, Delivery and Recovery (LDR) suite. With an adjustable bed and reclining sleeper for your coach, our suites are designed to increase your comfort during labor. Each suite is also fully equipped to help ensure a safe delivery and outstanding medical care for the first hours of your baby’s life. If you require a Cesarean section, we also have a 5-bed surgical suite dedicated to women’s services, so you will be able to deliver your baby in an operating room located right in our maternity unit.
Signature Maternity Services - For patients and families that would like to enhance their stay with additional amenities, we offer an upgraded VIP Suite Package.
Our Labor and Delivery is a 12 bed unit on the second floor of the Women’s Building. This unit provides comprehensive care of the pregnant patient and accepts admits from the ER, direct admits, Women and Children’s Clinic, EMS and walk-in’s. We care for patients that are preterm and term. Labor and Delivery assists with vaginal or cesarean deliveries, tubals, cerclages, versions, and any pregnancy related condition requiring treatment. Some conditions that may be treated on this unit are PIH, gestational diabetes, preterm labor, and obstetrical emergencies. Labor and Delivery currently staffs at a 1:1 to 1:2 patient ratio depending on acuity. Triage is also housed on Labor and Delivery. This is the area where patients are monitored, and it is determined if they will be admitted to the hospital or discharged home.
Family Birth Center
Our Family Birth Center cares for well newborns, mother’s, and gynecological patients. This unit is comprised of the 3rd and 4th floor in the Women’s Building, and accepts admissions from Labor and Delivery, Women’s OR, direct admits, Main OR and ER. There are 28 beds on the 3rd floor and 20 beds on the 4th floor, as well as our VIP rooms. The newborn nursery is staffed at all times with 2 RN’s, and the Postpartum unit staffs at a 1:3 couplet ratio. Family Birth Center provides couplet care for all healthy mothers and infants. It also houses the newborn nursery where comprehensive newborn care can be provided. Procedures such as circumcisions are also performed in the nursery. The newborn nursery also monitors infants that may be having difficulty, but do not meet the criteria for NICU. If NICU is warranted a transfer will be placed from the newborn nursery. Staff from the newborn nursery also assist in transitioning infants in the Labor and Delivery Unit. Family Birth Center also cares for women pre-surgery and post-surgery with gynecological needs. This unit receives admissions from Labor and Delivery and Women’s OR.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
As the first Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) unit in Houston, we provide highly qualified trained nurses and respiratory therapists to support a board-certified neonatologist in meeting the special needs of newborns and premature infants. Our 36-bed Level II & III NICU unit is equipped with advanced incubation and monitoring equipment to provide a range of critical care services for these fragile newborns. Our ratio is 1:4 for level 2 infants and 1:2 for level 3 infants. We provide comprehensive care to our smallest patients. The NICU team attends all cesarean deliveries, complicated vaginal deliveries, and any deliveries of infants that will need support after delivery. This is an invaluable service and is located on the 1st floor of the Women’s Building.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Licensed as a Registered Nurse accepted by Texas State Board of Nursing to engage in professional nursing Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or related field. National Certification as recognized by the American Nurses Credentialing Center within two years of appointment Three or more years of experience in the specialty area. Comprehensive knowledge of nursing procedures, processes, and acute care organizations. Technical, critical thinking and interpersonal skills relevant to area in order to effectively and work collaboratively with the leadership team, executive team, and staff. Certification requirements as defined by the certification policy. Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Adept using Microsoft Office, online applications.
