Under general supervision and following established policies and procedures, performs and records ultrasound diagnostic tests, integrates pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data to facilitate optimum diagnostic results, records anatomical pathological and or physiological data, records and processes sonographic data. Ensures ultrasound tests are of accurate quality. Complies with and participates in maintaining an environment which supports St. Joseph Medical Center Philosophy, Mission, and Values of Spirit.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Consistently supports the hospital’s Spirit of Serving Standards, in line with the Mission, Vision and values of St. Joseph Medical Center.
- Follows the St. Joseph Medical Center Guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI)
- Promotes a culture of safety for patients and Associates through proper identification, proper reporting, documentation and prevention of medical errors in a non-punitive environment.
- Receives customers, verifies patient identification, introduces self, and gives them family a thorough explanation of the procedure.
- Reviews the patient orders and /or inpatient chart for order clarification.
- Obtains a focused cardiac assessment and reason for obtaining the requested cardiac ultrasound.
- Promotes quality of care by using recommended scanning techniques and knowledge of the ultrasound equipment to maximize image quality.
- Obtains, records and /or collects cardiac ultrasound images for the Cardiologist review and interpretation.
- Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals and other literature and attending related seminars, conferences
- Provides on-call coverage for after hour emergencies according to Echo Call Schedule
- Supportive of the compliance program set forth by HPA and demonstrated by:
- Upholds the Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance.
- Adheres to and helps to enforce all compliance policies relevant to his/her area.
- Assures timely compliance education as requested by the Compliance Officer and/or through corporate initiatives.
- Sets an example to all staff in their daily activities.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Approximately 12 months as dedicated cardiac sonographer, with direct patient experience required.
- A.R.D.M.S. or C.C.I. registration preferred
- If prospective candidate is not registered at time of employment, associate will have 1 ½ years / 18 months from first day of employment to successfully complete and pass the Cardiac Ultrasound Registry though either ARDMS or CCI or forfeit their employment.
Education & Training:
Completion of clinical and classroom education to qualify for ARDMS or CCI registration.
- Excellent written and verbal skills. Knowledge of normal anatomy and cardiac variations. Must be able to write legibly, speak clearly, and have a working knowledge of ultrasound principles.
