Job Description



JOB SUMMARY:

Provides day-to-day management of assigned laboratory sections including, but not limited to personnel, productivity, finance, equipment operation, test methodologies, and test processes and reporting. Regularly reviews policies/procedures and revises as needed to ensure compliance with hospital and regulatory standards. Establishes and maintains acceptable QC and PI programs. Coordinates sections with other laboratory sections and hospital teams to ensure a continuum of quality care. Consistently works to identify and meet the needs of Outreach clients. Orients and oversees the training of all testing personnel assigned to the sections; hires, fires, disciplines, counsels, schedules, and evaluates performance as needed.

Responsible for providing managerial direction of one or more of the Laboratory Departments. Ensures accreditation of the Laboratory by keeping breast of TJC and CLIA regulations and ensuring compliance with all regulations. In collaboration with the Administrative Director, develops departmental goals and objectives and designs and implements plans to meet agreed upon goals. Assists the Administrative Director to develop, secure approval of and administer the capital and operating budgets and to monitor the budget against cost projections to limit or resolve variances.



Qualifications

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

WORK EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of five years experience in a clinical laboratory.
  • This experience should include two years management experience.(Required)

LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:
  • Texas does not require license.
  • Current CLS (NCA) or MT (ASCP) certification.
  • If certified after 2004 must maintain active credential status to maintain employment.

EDUCATION & TRAINING:
  • Graduate from a CAHEA accredited program in Medical Technology.
  • Graduate from an approved/accredited Bachelor's degree program in Medical Technology, Biology or a closely related discipline.

SKILLS:
  • Technical, critical thinking and interpersonal skills relevant to area in order to effectively communicate with physicians, health team members, patents and families.
  • Intermediate level of skills in standard managerial techniques, such as budgeting and interpersonal relations necessary in order to effectively manage people.
  • Excellent advanced laboratory skills in order to provide technical oversight to laboratory testing and services.
  • Analytical skills necessary in order to oversee the accreditation process and proficiency testing program.
  • Ability to prioritize work with minimal supervision, in order to independently carry out the duties of the position.
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Additional languages preferred.
  • Intermediate computer knowledge in laboratory systems, word processing, and spreadsheet processing.
